Don’t Format that drive!

Isn't Windows Fun?

Well its that time in a Operating System’s life cycle. The dreaded format and reinstall of Windows. I have been fearing this for a couple of months. Just like vehicles, your Operating System gets sluggish after a while and needs a refresher.

I’ve had Windows XP installed for 4+ years and now windows starts very slowly and just recently started randomly giving me BSOD and rebooting. The fun part of backing up all my important documents, media, software, etc. onto an external drive and praying that I got everything is the next step. This is sort of good in a way because i get to sift through all of crap and delete what I really don’t need or haven’t used in a long time. It’s spring cleaning for the computer.

This makes me think about the push to Cloud Computing or Client Server computing and wonder if that is the way to go.

A few years ago I dealt with the same thing. Now I’ve a server that backups and stores my documents, files, pictures… and on the PC it’s self, barely anything that means a crap.

I reload the Operating System, ANTI-VIRUS, image viewers and maybe a few games, but everything else is loaded from my server. Thunderbird, Firefox, Openoffice, password keeper and more. Things that can be ran simply by extracting them in a folder and running them.

Keeping my world setup like this keeps my mind at ease. Why? well it’s on a server; it’s backed up. and the things I use most can be ran from a folder without install…

Before reinstalling, try removing everything that you would get rid of otherwise and clean the registry. QUICK UNINSTALLER is a great free program for uninstalling stuff. REVO UNINSTALLER is good too, and also removed registry crap when it runs. I did all this and my system seemed to run better.

    Hope this helps!
