FALL TV 2009 is Here!
// September 14th, 2009 // TV
Finally! Fall TV is here to save us from the sub-par programming we were subjected to over the summer. We had the Fox’s Fat Bachelor also known as “More to Love.” Who can forgot Shaq’s ABC premiere to network TV with Shaq VS. NBC had “I’m a Celebrity get me out of Here.” The only shows that kept me going through the summer were Season 2 of True Blood, So You Think You Can Dance, Mad Men, Hell’s Kitchen and Warehouse 13.
Keep reading to see the shows I’m interested in this fall.
Fall TV Shows I am most looking forward to:
Fringe ( September 17th) – After a great first season cliffhanger with Leonard Nimoy as William Bell, I’m anxious to see where the show goes next with the story and if they will elaborate on Olivia Dunham’s past as well as her tie in with Walter Bishop.
The Office (September 17th) – Pam and Jim are having a baby. Is there still a chance for Michael and Holly (ya right). What’s gonna happen to Dunder Mifflin?
Community (September 17th) – This is a new show that looks promising. I can’t really tell much from the previews if this will be a hit or flop but the show does have some promise in the way of writers and directors. Dan Harmon (“The Sarah Silverman Program”) and Emmy Award-winning directors Joe and Anthony Russo (“Arrested Development”) are the creative force behind this new show. There are also some power house actors such as Chevy Chase, Joel McHale (“Talk Soup”), and that chinese dude from “The Hangover” Ken Jeong.
Heroes (September 21st) – Call me thick headed but I am still holding out for Heroes hoping it will get better. Last season was just ok. The end of last season showed some promise with the re-hiring of Bryan Fuller after his show Pushing Daisies was canceled from ABC. I have faith he can bring back some of the magic to show that was lacking by going back to character-driven plots. In an interview with ScifiWire.com, Bryan Fuller talks about the issues last season and why it sucked.
Flash Forward (September 24th) – Everyone on the planet blacks out at the same time and sees a glimpse of whats to come six months in the future. It will be interesting to see how far they take this premise. The show also has some Lost alumni with Sonya Walger who played “Penelope Widmore” and Dominic Monaghan who played “Charlie Pace.”
Dollhouse (September 25th) – After an excellent first season for the Dollhouse. I expect great things of Mr. Joss Whedon for Round 2. After reading one of the sneak peaks of the first episode, it has surely wet my appetite for more Dollhouse.
Stargate Universe (October 2nd) – I have to say I haven’t watched anything Stargate related besides the movie. I’ve read good things about this show and one comment has sparked my interest is that the show is “like Battlestar Galactica.” Here is an excerpt from SyFy.com:
“A group of soldiers, scientists and civilians, fleeing an attack, find themselves stranded far from Earth on a mammoth Ancient ship known as the Destiny. They must live in the limbo of time and space, cling to the notion of hope, locked on an unknown course in search of home.”
Hmm sounds alot like Battlestar Galactica minus the Cylons and a stargate instead of a FTL drive. I just hope they don’t go for the BSG carbon copy because that usually equals failure. From the looks of the trailer, they’ve added a bigger budget than used in previous stargates.
V (Starts November 11th) – Before District 9 and Independence Day, there was V. This is based on the 80′s sci-fi classic of the same name. One bit of warning, I have never seen the original series so I am looking at it with fresh eyes. From the looks of the trailer, I like the juxtaposition of the show to current events. Its all about devotion, those devoted to believing the “V”s are here for good and those who think they are here for evil (*cough* Healthcare reform anyone?).
Not Technically Fall TV but close enough:
24 (January 17th) - I don’t know much about the new season. My only comment about the show is “Jack Bauer is here to kick some ass!” Enough said. 24 is one of those shows for me that I enjoy watching season after season. They always find new ways to entertain me. I’m banking that season 7 will be no different.
Lost (Early 2010) – Once again the long wait for the next season of Lost. With high production costs and ever increasing salaries, the number of episodes has dwindled from 24 down to 18. Even with the long wait and small number of episodes, this is still one of the best shows on TV in my opinion.
