This past weekend I picked my old web hosting to the curb in search for greener pastures. CookieHost is an ok website if you h
ave a static website that doesn’t get much traffic and doesn’t have anything database driven. It was good for getting my feet wet with web hosting enough to know that I wanted more. The website was always slow and since they only had one server, when one of their websites crashed or had an issue, we all suffered. I won’t go into much more about cookiehost but if want to read more about them, check out my buddy Larry’s experience with them. I am now with HostGator who I have heard nothing but good things about and hope they work out for me. I have only been with them a few days but I noticed a dramatic speed increase on page reloads over cookiehost.
I decided to change my WordPress theme a third time. This new theme is called Irresistible by WooThemes. The last theme had some quirks about it that I didn’t like. It was built more to display ads rather than display content. I feel I should build up the content on my site before bombarding my audience with ads. This new theme seems to have a nice clean look to it. I’ve added a couple of widgets on the sidebar that shows statuses from my most common social networks.
I haven’t updated my blog on a regular basis and that is something I want to change. Most of this year I have been microblogging through my social networks like twitter and friendfeed. This is great for all my friends on those networks but it doesn’t reach a broader audience and some of the greatest content gets lost in the noise. I love twitter for the briskness of it. Its good for small thoughts or links that don’t qualify a whole blog post. Its not the greatest for having conversations, this is where friendfeed comes in. What is friendfeed? I’ll be explaining this more in a future post but for the purpose of this post, lets just say its like twitter on steroids. Some of my thoughts and conversations will start showing up as blog entries in the near future.
For those of you that have read this far, what are you thoughts on starting a conversation on twitter or other social networks, then carrying it over to your blog? Who is for this or who could care less?
